First Impressions from the Magento 2 Conference

Posted on: May 9th, 2016 | Category: Application Development

Two weeks ago, I went to Las Vegas, along with two other Weidenhammer team members, to participate in the fifth Magento Imagine conference.  Joining me at the conference were Manager of Client Relations, Jeremy Jones and VP of Solutions Delivery, Deb Longacre.  I discovered a variety of exciting elements that our clients can certainly benefit from and I want to share what these changes mean for Magento and your company.

Here are the 6 things you must know coming out of the Magento Imagine Conference:

Magento 2 Enterprise Cloud:

This is a real differentiator for some of the larger scale clients in the future and gives developers and clients the combination of the partnership they need with a hosting provider that has 24/7 application and infrastructure support. It is an amazing solution and I was super excited by the announcement.

B2C Focus:

It’s critical the eCommerce sites be easy for shoppers and merchants need to think like a shopper instead of thinking about their business processes.  It’s our job to help them streamline that experience. For example, I heard a story about one merchant who had a basic template website and one that had an engaging user experience.  The conversion rate from the one with the engaging user experience was 70% higher than the other.  That differential is pretty astounding.

B2B Focus:

A new focus that is important for the customers considering Magento 2 as an eCommerce solution is that the platform is now focused on being a B2B solution with the new enterprise edition model. eCommerce in B2B world has long been underserved and now Magento has a strong module catering to the B2B market.

“The Magento Enterprise Edition B2B Module provides a flexible, cost-effective commerce solution for a largely underserved market. We’re excited to explore the new opportunities this provides our clients, especially those courting challenging niche buyers.”

Deb Longacre, VP of Solutions Delivery

Overall Performance Improvements for Users:

Magento 2 features enhancements which simplify the checkout process and in turn, increase sales. These include an out-of-the-box, one-page checkout and simplify credit card usage by preselecting your card type based on the card number. Customers want the best experience and we all know that if we build a great experience, people are going to be abandoning the cart less.

Product Management Improvements:

While the platform has previously relied heavily on plugins and extensions, many of the Magento 2 improvements are built right into the new platform, creating a better out-of-the-box experience.

Developer Improvements:

In addition to being a simpler experience for the users of the Magento eCommerce experience, it is also simplified for the developers which are implementing the experience. These include, but are not limited to, built-in CSS preprocessing and the ability to handle Javascript in a more modular way.
